Fire Extinguisher Cleanup in Ringoes

Before:

When there was a very small fire in the hallway of this Ringoes apartment building, a resident made the right call to grab the fire extinguisher to put it out as fast as possible. But - fire extinguishers do leave a giant mess behind.

As you can see in the before photo, the powder or foam that is discharged by fire extinguishers covered just about every inch of the apartment hallway. To make the cleanup even more time consuming for the building's regular janitorial staff, the hallway was carpeted and residents had already walked through the powder - pushing it further into the fibers and spreading it around the building.

After

After deciding that this cleanup would be out of the scope of their normal janitorial staff, the apartment building management company called us here at SERVPRO of Greater Hunterdon County

Our crews were able to be on site the same afternoon to completely and thoroughly clean all the hallways. We use commercial grade equipment that allows us to provide more efficient cleaning services.

As you can see, when our team was done, the hallway looked as if the fire extinguisher was never even used. At SERVPRO of Greater Hunterdon County, our goal is to make any disaster "Like it never even happened."

How To Use A Fire Extinguisher

Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher is very important for situations just like these. If it wasn't used, the small fire may have been able to spread and cause a huge amount of fire damage to the entire apartment building. Luckily, learning how to use a fire extinguisher is as simple as knowing 4 letters.

PASS:

Pull the pin of the fire extinguisher and hold it with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism.

Aim low. You should point the fire extinguisher at the base of the fire to smother it.

Squeeze the level slowly and evenly.

Sweep the nozzle from side to side.
