Flood Damage Clinton – Checking for Moisture
Anytime moisture is allowed to remain inside a wall, or under a floor, there is a risk of mold and even structural issues if the wood frame begins to lose tensile strength. Many consumers may clean up after a flood removing debris from the flood, perhaps even throwing out carpeting and items that were damaged. But what about moisture in the subfloor and inside walls?
SERVPRO has been providing flood damage services in Clinton and has over 25 years of experience. Our team of certified technicians understands how much damage hidden moisture pockets can do. We have the latest equipment to find these pockets of moisture. We use a combination of penetrating moisture meters, infrared cameras, moisture sensors, as well as thermos Hygrometers to identify and remove all of the potential trouble spots.
Moisture Sensors
The carpet and underpad may appear to be dry, but what about the subfloor. A moisture meter is used to probe through the carpet and underpad to the subfloor. It verifies the removal of all moisture. If moisture is detected, SERVPRO may lift the carpet to blow dry air over the subfloor to remove the additional moisture.
Thermal Imaging Cameras
These cameras document moisture areas at the beginning of a project. Also, at the end of the project to confirm that all of the moisture is gone. Damp materials that appear to be dry on the surface demonstrate a different surface temperature compared to nearby areas that are dry. Different surface temperatures are an indication of moisture inside the wall or floor.
Moisture Meters
Moisture meters are used to determine the level of moisture inside materials. For example, wood floors, while dry on the surface, may contain high moisture levels, which can cause cupping and splintering if the moisture is not removed.
Thermo-hygrometers
These devices measure the relative humidity and temperature of air masses inside rooms, basements, or commercial premises. Thermos-hygrometers are also used to verify humidity levels of air exhausted from dehumidifiers and HVAC systems.
SERVPRO uses all of these devices to make sure that all areas touched by flood damage are dry and cannot cause mold infestations or damage structural elements at a later time.
